Public relations.

(Bill’s note: This is an old article of mine but with the fallout of this past week’s elections and the inevitable hysteria that has ensued beyond the left and right, I felt it needed to be re-posted to remind everyone how we got to where we are today and what you can expect in the very near future. I’ve edited it for content and to recognize how things can change in a very short time.)

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society.” Edward Bernays

Have you ever wondered how we got to this point, where most people just want to go to their pointless jobs, afterwards go home, drink and how a show like “American Idol” and football became the entertainment of choice for the majority of Americans? Have you wondered how the hell Barack Obama got re-elected after four years of abject failure that’s so obvious that you couldn’t imagine him being re-elected? Are you a thinking individual that looks at all the insanity going on around you and wonder how the fuck did we get to this point? It’s really very simple, it’s been planned for more years than anyone alive can imagine and it started with one man who figured out the power of propaganda and public relations and sold it to the elites of the time. This past week’s elections have proven his theories more than any other example that I can think of in recent years.

Have you ever heard of Edward Bernays in a history class? I didn’t think so. His history and what he accomplished has been suppressed way beyond what he was able to do to fundamentally transform America and by his example Western culture. He was the first individual to figure out that a population could be manipulated to support almost anything that his clients could imagine for their own benefit. Which, as his largest clients, included governments.

Here’s a bit of biography from Wikipedia:

“Edward Louis Bernays (November 22, 1891 – March 9, 1995), was an Austrian-American pioneer in the field of public relations and propaganda, referred to in his obituary as “the father of public relations”.[1] He combined the ideas of Gustave Le Bon and Wilfred Trotter on crowd psychology with the psychoanalytical ideas of his uncle, Sigmund Freud.

He felt this manipulation was necessary in society, which he regarded as irrational and dangerous as a result of the ‘herd instinct‘ that Trotter had described. Adam Curtis‘s award-winning 2002 documentary for the BBC, The Century of the Self, pinpoints Bernays as the originator of modern public relations, and Bernays was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by Life magazine.

He was a double nephew of Sigmund Freud and he used his uncle’s conclusions in the fledgling field of psychology extensively in his pursuits. Unfortunately, Freud’s observations about normal people were for the most part true which Bernays parleyed into a public relations empire. It became an easy thing for them to sell their services to anyone who would pay their fees to manipulate any population that might be targeted including governments. His stated goals, however, were more nefarious than his business pursuits indicate. He definitely thought of himself as one of the “intelligent few” who in the end should be running things regardless of what the people wanted or voted for. Here’s a quote from an interview given shortly before his death:

“As a member of the intellectual elite who guides the destiny of society, the PR “professional,” Bernays explained, aims his craft at a general public which is essentially, and unreflectively, reactive. Working behind the scenes, out of public view, the public relations expert is “an applied social scientist,” one educated to employ an understanding of “sociology, psychology, social psychology and economics” in order to influence and direct public attitudes. Bernays conveyed his hallucination of democracy: a highly educated class of opinion-molding tacticians is continuously at work, analyzing the social terrain and adjusting the mental scenery from which the public mind, with its limited intellect, derives its opinions.”

Now you know how the elites view you and me. We have “limited intellect”. This guy was born in 1891 so now hopefully you now realize how far back this goes. We’ve been exposed to more than a century of subjugation and mind control and have given our consent by the mechanism of propaganda and public relations determining where you spend your money, that you put your kids through the education-prison complex and in the end who you vote for (if you are silly enough to vote). Government intrusions in your everyday life, government schooling, untenable taxes, militarized police, minority priority, everything has been planned for over a hundred years if not far longer than that. Bernays just gave them the tools to make it more efficient. And over 110,000,000 voters gave them that consent in this past election just in this country.

And behind the scenes, an invisible government pulls the strings. Barack Obama means nothing in the long range nature of their plans and if you think otherwise here’s my quote for you, “you are an infinite degree of idiot”. Here are a few more quotes from Edward:

“In almost every act of our lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons [...] who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world.”

“Propaganda is the executive arm of the invisible government.”

“If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without them knowing it.”

There’s one thing you need to realize behind this little lesson in history. What Bernays and his colleagues were attempting (and largely succeeding) at was geared towards the white people of the western world that at the time was a pretty much unapposable voting bloc. With the increased minoritization of all western countries an unavoidable fact, propaganda and public relations are going to become much easier for those that have the finances and incentives to use them.

It surrounds us and it’s nearly inescapable. Turn on a TV, listen to talk radio on an AM channel, watch a football game, even surf the sites you trust on the web, every part of it has some public relations mixed into it.

And public relations equals lies.

Who knows what truth is anymore? I don’t.

  1. Bernays was the bastard who convinced everyone that fluoride was good for your health and all public water supplies should have industrial waste dumped in them.

  2. “In his memoirs, Bernays wrote that he was “shocked” to discover that Goebbels kept copies of Bernays’ writings in his own personal library, and that his theories were therefore helping to “engineer” the rise of the Third Reich.”

Kind of funny that a Jew helped the Nazis in such a fundamental area but not surprising. For most people it works quite effectively and really has nothing to do with intelligence but has everything to do with how much in tune you are with the herd mind that they are trying to manipulate. I work with people that are operating at the genius level but for the most part are totally incapable of seeing what is going on and are blinded to the truth thanks to this type of thing. Most of them still think that Obamacare is a good thing even as cost go through the roof and companies layoff or reduce hours to avoid being totally done in by it.

Also, this really is nothing new, Bernays just codified what rulers have been doing since the dawn of time. Machiavelli also had a pretty good grasp on how to manipulate a population and details how the ruling elite stay in power. The really amazing thing is how in step all the major media outlets are and what a total lie our education was about an “independent press” being the counter balance to government. You can still find the truth on the internet but it takes a lot of filtering to figure out and even then, as you say, some things you can never be certain of.

    • Actually being “shocked” was just lip service by Bernays. His employers (and we all know who they were) were playing both sides for their own profit. If I’m not mistaken, Bernays and Geobbels met personally multiple times.

    • Interesting video there but I still take it with a grain of salt. Anyone and I mean ANYONE who ever got the real truth out there with a large audience would quickly be neutralized.

  3. This is totally off topic but thought I’d bounce this off anyone that is interested. I’ve been thinking since the election about what’s going to happen going forward and from my perspective it doesn’t really look all that promising. Consider this article:

If you look at this you’ll see a somewhat typical scene for almost all California and probably US cities which is that they have peaked as far as population, industrial base and income. And in fact most of them appear to have peaked around 2000 just as the dot com bubble burst. And since then they’ve used debt to keep the party going which has profited the bankers but left these cities in even worse shape.

So that got me thinking, what can we expect going forward, Detroit is my favorite model for collapse of a city as it has been so dramatic in it’s decline. Detroit population peaked in the 1950’s and has rapidly declined from a peak of 1.8 million to around 750,000 today or about what it’s population was 100 years ago. Interestingly enough New Orleans is in the same situation except it peaked in the 1960’s but is again at a population level last seen a century ago. Anyone that has googled images of detriot’s decline can see what a mess it is, the city can’t even afford to provide basic services to large parts of the city and the citizens have for the most part gone native and are stealing anything, nailed down or not.

So what is the common traits for all these declining cities? It’s not race surprisingly enough but the pattern seems to be as follows:
    1. City leaders start to take for granted it’s industrial base and starts to use it as a piggy bank for funding politically connected groups (public employee unions especially cops and firemen as well as wealthy developers).
    2. Corruption of the city leaders as special interests pump money into keeping the gravy flowing into their pocket
    3. Industrial base peaks and starts to shrink as costs don’t justify staying, this starts a spiraling decline as the city uses tax increases to the remaining business and people to keep money flowing into the special interest pockets and corruption increases as special interests become an ever larger source of political funding.
    4. Productive people start to leave as the jobs leave so what is left are those that can’t leave mostly because they are welfare dependents of the city in one way or another. As the productive people leave the crime rate goes up as the bottom feeders become the majority which is again another spiral of decline. More productive people leave, crime increases, rinse and repeat.
    5. As the tax base shrinks, property values collapse, and the ability to raise taxes hits whatever natural limit there is, the city turns to bonds and other debt to finance the constantly increasing demand for money by the welfare class and the city special interests (mostly the public employee unions at this point).
    6. A series of break points are hit with the city going in and out of bankruptcy, where this ends I’m not sure but eventually it hits bottom and does not recover from there.

The one essential thing to remember about this spiral of decline is that once it starts it will go to completion, there is no stopping it as it is self re-enforcing (positive feedback loop in engineering terms) until it hits bottom in both the behavior of the city leaders and the population of the city. This can also be roughly extended to states and even countries.

So the take away here for how we can use this to our advantage is that you want to be out of any place where the population is in decline (especially if the percentage of welfare dependents is on the increase) and in any place where the population is growing. The opposite of Detroit is Shanghai just google images for both cities for 1950’s and today and you’ll see an amazing contrast. Also be aware that the decline can happen much quicker than what happened in Detroit which took decades to get where it is now. This also applies to States and countries, if you are thinking of punching out of the US or Europe then make sure you land somewhere that is on the positive side of the growth curve and not in a decline, otherwise you risk going from the frying pan into the fire.

    • One key thing I forgot, for states and countries percentage of welfare to producers is probably key as the population could be still growing but the shift towards a welfare population will be telegraphing that the decline is already in and population loss will follow down the line as the decline progresses.

      • Population decline is the bear in the room that no one will acknowledge. And it’s not just here in the states, it’s a worldwide trend. Exactly what the elites want.

  4. The funny thing is, Bernays has been ghosted from PR classes at most universities too. Also, for anyone being introduced to Bernays for the first time on this post, google the name “Walter Lippman.” He’s the reason Geobbels modeled his propaganda after the U.S.WWI model.
